History
1999
The Center for Training and Development (CTD) under the Office of the
Vice President for Research and Development, was immediately constituted
upon the assumption to office of Dr. Ofelia M. Carague, the 10th
President of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
The year saw the operational debut of the Center. CTD officials and
line staff crafted the vision, mission, and rationale of the Center.
Both short-term and long-term goals were set based on the Center’s
standards and objectives.
2000
The Center started tapping the homegrown talents of the faculty and
administrative employees through its trainers’ training program. The
Center organized a University-wide IT Training Programs in coordination
with the PUP Information and Communications Technology Center to elevate
the “IT Literacy Level” of the academic and administrative sectors.
The Center waged a vigorous coordination campaign to tap
administrative and academic units in the University. As a result of this
dynamic collaboration, the Center achieved its short-term goals:
organized and conducted seminars on "Book Writing and Production";
"Training the Trainors"; "Research Mentoring and Preparation of Project
Proposals"; "The Mechanics of Research and Project Proposals";
"Interactive Instructional Materials Development"; "Information and
Communication Technology Trainings; "Communicative Oral and Written
Competencies"; "University-wide Wellness Program"; "Team Building
Workshop"; and "Productive Work Attitude"; and "Transforming the PUP
Managers Into a High Performing Management Team".
2001
The Center played an important role in organizing series of visioning
workshops, conferences and communication sessions for all the sectors of
the University during the implementation of PUP-TLRC “Change Management
Initiation Project”. Director Cecilia S. Austero and Prof. Tomas O.
Testor developed training brochures and programs.
2002
CTD busied itself with the updating and preparation of more training
programs to address the needs of the faculty and administrative
employees of the University. Likewise, it coordinated with the different
organizations and other agencies seeking the services of the Center
through training programs.
2003
A lot of reorientation programs for the faculty and administrative
employees of the University were conducted. Information Technology (IT)
training programs on MS Word 2000 and MSQL Server were jointly conducted
for the young officers of the Philippine Navy by the Center for Training
and Development (CTD), the Information Communication Technology Center (ICTC),
and the Philippine Navy.
2004
2004 was marked with various seminar-workshops and lecture-fora. The
Center gave due importance to major aspects of efficient public service
by holding seminars on accountability and leadership.
2005
The CTD’s opening salvo for the year was the exploratory talk and
organizational meeting of the PUP Speakers Bureau. The guest of honor
and speaker was the 2004 World’s Best Speaker in a contest held in
London, Ms. Patricia C. Evangelista. The officials of the Manila Bay
Postmasters’ Club lectured on how a Speakers’ Bureau works.
2006
During the first quarter of the year, the Center for Training and
Development (CTD) conducted the second phase of the Program “Quality
Customer Service and High Productivity” with two batches of participants
coming from the different administrative offices. The result of 2006
Training Needs Analysis for Faculty and the Administrative Sector's
Skills Inventory and Training Needs Assessment were presented in the "Koffee
Klatch". A Crash Program on Office Administration was crafted. Attendees
to this seminar included the academic secretaries and other front-line
employees. The second quarter of the year, saw the Center holding the
"Web Content Publishing and Management" seminar. |
